In the 1700's the term "Silhouette" came to be known as anything reduced to it's simplest form. French artists began making portraits in outline only. The rage for this art form quickly spread to the United States where fashionable people had their likeness made. The Silhouette enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in the 1930's and 1940's. Silhouette usually refers to a profile cut from black paper but came to include many fine painted images also. Our silhouettes feature retro-style black frames.
