Art Prints, lithographs and art posters from paintings by Arthur J. Elsley. This 19th century artist was born in 1860. He studied at the South Kensington School of Art. Although Elsley was born in London, he preferred the countryside. He shared a studio for a time with Fred Morgan, which probably accounts for his influence on Morgan's style. In 1891 he won the prestigious silver medal at the Crystal Palace Exhibition. His paintings of children and animals became so popular that the copper plates used to reproduce prints actually wore out and had to be remade. It is said that people would line up to see and buy his original works. Arthur J. Elsley died in 1952.
