Zula Kenyon was born in Wisconsin in 1873. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago. Between 1900 and 1918 Zula lived in Chicago and painted for their calendars, becoming one of the leading artists. Her favorite medium was pastels, which she ground herself. Her work had the strength and brilliance of oils. Her favorite subjects were portraits of women, children, and Indian maidens. Perhaps her best known works are her "Bluebird" series. She was one of the most popular artists of her time. She died in 1947.
